Final Project (Group): Live Update
One of the final projects for this course is a group project involving the updating, over six days (18 to 23 August 2003), of a feature-story web site called Kuwentong Kalye.
Students will work in groups of two (ideally, one writer and one photographer) with two (or, in one case, three) other groups. One group in the team will handle Mission Control while the other two groups gather data from the field and send in (through e-mail, to kuwentongkalye@hotmail.com, CCd to kuwentongkalye@yahoo.com) stories and photos for Mission Control to process and upload to the site.
Page templates have been prepared to save valuable updating time.
Story specs
The theme of the web site is "Tales from the City". Articles should be human interest stories on a person, place, event, or object in Metro Manila. All stories must be accompanied by captioned photos. Mini-photoessays are also acceptable, so long as they are accompanied by a verbal essay.
Stories must be 500 to 1000 words only. Verbal essays accompanying mini-photoessays must be 350 to 500 words only. Stories may or may not be embedded with HTML code, but they must be submitted in Text-Only (.txt) format.
Stories may be written in English or Filipino only.
Each group must send in at least one story per fielding. Each group will be fielded twice during the six-day period. Groups may send in more than one story. Groups may submit only one mini-photoessay.
Stories and photoessays may be prepared ahead of time, so long as Mission Control receives these during the update slots. Each page must contain the date and time of the upload, as well as the story's geographical origin, e.g.: 01 April 2002 | 0945H | Valle Verde, Pasig.
Mission Control
The physical location of Mission Control will be the Desktop Lab (M215), or any location with an Internet connection and the necessary software and hardware.
However, for the first two days of the project, Mission Control work will be done in M215 for easy supervision.
Important: Because there is more than one Mission Control group during each update slot, these groups must coordinate with each other to avoid duplication and deletion of uploaded files. You may decide to split the time slot, or work together in the same physical location, so long as only one group handles the "hot" pages at a time.

Grading
The project will be graded on the punctuality, accuracy, and quality of the updates, as well as the ability to adapt to adverse circumstances. The professor will perform random spot checks, as well as monitor the site during the live periods.
This is a group project. "Group" means all students enrolled in PRINPRO A51. At the start of the project, the group receives a 4.0. Every mistake made on the site will result in a deduction from this grade. Deductions may be voided by prompt correction of the mistake, or by outstanding output.
The final projects comprise 50% of the pre-final grade. Of this percentage, 40% will come from the group project, and 60% will come from the individual project. See Grading System for other details.
